California Dreaming

August 2, 2018

It has just been a little over a week since I returned from my amazing trip to California wine country. To say it was amazing would be an understatement! I have never been to California and was blown away at how beautiful it was and the weather is all it is cracked up to be. I could get use to the no humidity thing! Our trip was full of gorgeous views and amazing wine and food! I was thrilled to get to wear some of the great pieces we have in the store and they fit in perfectly amongst the beautiful backdrop.

DAY 1

Our first day was predominantly a travel day but because of the time difference it was only around noon when we arrived in Los Olivos. Los Olivos is about 45 minutes north of Santa Barbara. My in-laws, who were so sweet to bring us on this trip, said that the Central Coast region (where we were) is what Napa was 30 years ago. It is much less developed and a lot less people (just my speed) but has amazing vineyards. The house where we stayed was to die for and had an infinity pool/hot tub overlooking the most gorgeous scenery. My husband and I had our coffee every morning in the hot tub while taking in the views (something else I could get use to)! The first night we went to an amazing italian restaurant called S.Y. Kitchen. This was probably my favorite meal and I had the most delicious fresh pineapple and basil mojito ( ok….I actually had 2, they were that good). I wore one of my favorite pieces in the store right now, Zimmermann’s Laelia High Neck Floral Dress. It is a lightweight linen fabric and features the most beautiful color palette. It is my favorite length – a midi – and has such a romantic feel that only seemed appropriate given the setting! I paired it with some fun Sachin and Babi earrings, a Jerome Dreyfuss Remi bag and a pair of Rachel Zoe heels I have had for a couple years that are comfortable and look great with everything!

DAY 2

We started day 2 at Firestone Vineyard (remember Andrew Firestone from the Bachelor?…his family started the vineyard). This tasting was a great way to start out the trip. We toured the facility and vineyard and they walked us thru the process of how wine is made and everything that goes into it! I learned a lot from this tasting and the wines weren’t so bad either! I wore an Ulla Johnson dress with a Rag and Bone hat and casual black strappy Aquzzura sandals. I wanted to dress up but also wanted to be comfortable and this was the perfect dress to achieve both. I knew this dress would transition perfectly later in the day when it was time to get dinner. I paired it with another Jerome Bag (I can’t get enough of his bags) and my trusty Lizzie Fortunato Modern Craft Earrings that I wear with everything and some Le Specs sunglasses.

Next we headed to my favorite tasting of the trip at Gainey Vineyard. There we did a blindfold challenge where we had to rely solely on taste and smell to identify white wines from red and then more specifically what types of each. We all had such a great time with this one and my husband was the only one who got all of the wines right (we are a wee bit competitive with each other so this pains me to even type that statement haha).

Day 3

On our third day we went to Rusack Vineyard and this was by far my favorite vineyard we visited on the trip. They had the most gorgeous sitting area with the most phenomenal views. We were able to sit and relax and take it all in while we did the tasting. This is a spot that locals love to come to and on Saturdays you can bring your own lunch and sit for hours sipping on vino and taking in the scenery. If I lived in this area I would definitely be a regular! I wore another super romantic Zimmermann dress and instead of wearing the matching tie belt I added some contrast with one of Lizzie Fortunato’s fabulous belts. I opted for my Modern Craft earrings again (they go with EVERYTHING and don’t hurt my ears even after wearing them all day) and slipped on some Free People sandals that have the perfect height heel. And shocker….I carried another Jerome bag. This one is a pretty pink hue.

DAY 4

On our last day we decided to head farther North to Paso Robles, a place that is special to my husband and I. This is the place where our 5 year old Chesapeake Bay Retriever, Deacon, was born. Several years ago we took a weekend trip to Asheville to celebrate my birthday. We were at a neat wine bar and my husband saw they had a Brochelle red zinfandel on the menu from Paso Robles. Because we had gotten Deacon there he decided to order a glass. We both took a taste and instantly it became one of our favorite wines and still is to this day. We figured since we were going to be so close to the area we had to make a day trip to their tasting room. It was great and we got to try some of their other wines which were also very good. On our way back to the house we stopped in Pismo Beach to eat lunch. I have never seen the Pacific Ocean in person so I had to document! Since I knew we would be in the car a good bit I decided to wear this super comfortable Zimmermann jumpsuit. It comes with a self tie but I wore it flowy with no tie which added to the comfortability. I paired it with the same Lizzie earrings I wore almost everyday, my Aquazzura flats, Rag and Bone hat and the green leopard Remi bag by Jerome Dreyfuss.

It was such an amazing time with family in this beautiful place and I will cherish the memories made forever! Now, excuse me while I go daydream about that pool and those views!

Jingle Jingle, Come and Mingle

December 23, 2014

This past weekend my husband and I hosted a festive Christmas Party at our house! Since we both have our own businesses, and can be a little MIA when it comes to social functions, we decided early in November that we wanted to have a little get together for our family and friends. It is so easy to get caught up in day to day life and we don’t get to see our family and friends nearly enough, so we were both thrilled about the party! We wanted it to be a dressy and festive evening so the first step was designing an invitation that went a long with that theme. I called my friend Danielle Nance, who owns Noteworthy Concepts and has a plethora of amazing invitation lines including Arzberger and Haute Papier. I opted for classic ivory card stock with gold letter pressed foiled and a very fun lime green lining. They arrived packaged so beautifully I almost hated to open the box!

photo 1-27

I wanted to keep the decorations for my house simple! I used a lot of smilax on the mantles and had candles everywhere! I love the ambiance a candlelight room creates!

We had a local restaurant, Starfire, cater and they did a fabulous job. Our favorite was the sesame seared tuna. Needless to say, there wasn’t a bit left at the end of the night!

All in all, it was a wonderful evening with the people that mean the most to us! Out sweet pup, Deacon, didn’t get to join in on the fun but once the party was over I brought him out for one last photo opt! Merry Christmas everyone!!

Big Apple Appointments Part II

September 20, 2014

Beautiful, crisp fall weather greeted us on our second day in the city.  We took full advantage of the chill in the air and pulled out our favorite sweaters and booties.  As you can see we obviously love our Rebecca Minkoff Alex booties and wore them the entire trip!  They are literally the most comfortable shoe and great for walking around the city.  We were definitely feeling the New York vibe and opted to wear black dresses by BCBGMaxaria that were great for traveling.  I wore a Mara Hoffman leopard sweater cape from Fall 2014 and Leah wore a fabulous by Malene Birger cardigan.  These were both easy sweaters to keep us warm while running around town.

photo-23

Our first appointment of the day was with Elizabeth and James and it did not disappoint.  The spring collection featured lots of pastels, matching separates, and cut outs.  It had a very laid back, California vibe to it that the Olsens attributed to the fact they had been traveling to L.A. so much opening their new The Row store.

photo 1-9

Issa was our next stop and it blew us away!  The prints featuring horses were so unique and the colors were so rich.  These were truly extraordinary pieces and captivating.

We ended our day of appointments at Nanette Lepore and couldn’t have asked for a better finale.  You could feel summer in the showroom with the bright colors and prints.  The collection was filled with yellow, aqua, and coral.  It was hard to narrow down our favorites because we loved so much of it!

photo 4-7

We treated ourselves to blowouts at the DryBar in Midtown.  Their stylists worked their magic on our hair while we sipped champagne.  There’s no better way to spend a Friday afternoon than getting your hair done!  Leah got the Manhattan which was sleek and smooth and I chose the Cosmo-Tai which was a combo of loose curls and beachy waves.

photo 5-7

I absolutley loved the products they used on my hair!  Before blowdrying she sprayed the Texas Tea Volumizing Hair Spray on my roots.  Then after she was done curling she sprayed the Triple Sec all over my hair to add volume and texture to my fine hair.  This stuff was the best smelling product I have ever used!  It has a fresh Vanilla scent that has lasted into the second day!  What is really great about this product is that it texturizes, amplifies, and refreshes the hair.  You can use this the second day to refresh your blowout and absorb any oil.

After getting our hair done we popped over to the BG Cafe at Bergdorf Goodman’s and may I say this is an exceptional restaruant!  Their Lobster Mac and Cheese is to die for!

main

Leah got the Lobster Napoleon, a magnificent dish of lobster, fresh pasta layers, chanterelles and truffle butter.  If you love lobster then this is the perfect dish!

photo 2-9

I chose the Chicken Milanse which was a parmesan crusted chicken breast topped with arugula and tomatoes and fingerling potatoes on the side. This was a great light dish and full of flavor!

photo 3-7

We strolled through Bergdorfs after lunch and drooled over fabulous shoes, clothes, and bags.  It was the perfect place to end our trip before heading to the airport.  NYC was amazing and we cannot wait to go back again!

Big Apple Appointments

September 19, 2014

Yesterday we arrived back in the bustling city to finish our Spring 2015 appointments. We were thrilled to be staying at the uber cool Empire Hotel. The hotel opened in 1923 and still has the original iconic sign. The design and décor of the Empire Hotel is very eclectic with a neutral palette of coffee, cream and caramel.  The decor is a mix of modern and vintage and is accented by hand-crafted metalwork such as hammered bronze, brass and copper. All furnishings and fittings were custom designed for the Empire Hotel, making it truly one of a kind. We are sure this hotel rings a bell with all you Gossip Girl fans out there!

The Empire Hotel also has an amazing roof top bar that features awesome views of the city and the Lincoln Center. All in all, we thoroughly enjoyed staying here and will definitely do so again in the future!

Our first appointment of the day was with a potential new designer for Mosaic. The Alexander Wang showroom displayed a very modern and edgy feel which was a great backdrop for his unique clothing.

photo 4-15

Next, we switched things up and headed to the bright and cheery Diane von Furstenberg showroom. Her Spring 2015 collection included some of her classic staples as well as many new silhouettes and prints.

photo 2-20

Our sweet DVF rep recommended that we go right around the corner and try out Rocky’s Restaurant for authentic New York style pizza. We never turn down a chance to have great food, much less awesome pizza! Rocky’s did not disappoint and their selection was extraordinary! We had a hard time narrowing down our choice to one slice.

After lunch, we headed to a much anticipated appointment at Lela Rose. She is originally from Dallas, TX and her feminine clothing shows off her southern roots. Her attention to detail is mind boggling and her fabrics are breath taking! Here are our favorites from her Spring 2015 collection.

Hatch showroom was our next stop. They house several current lines carried at Mosaic including Giles & Brother and Rachel Pally. Little did we know, we would be introduced to an amazing new jewelry line made in NYC! Auden is the perfect mix of industrial and feminine. We are already counting down the days until it arrives at Mosaic!

At this point in the day we found ourselves famished and in need of a great cocktail. Luckily, Isola at the Mondrian Soho was right across the street. This restaurant is gorgeous!! The beautiful chandeliers, glass ceiling and lush greenery create quite an elegant atmosphere.

photo 4-18

The Mondrian Bellini and the Antipasta plate hit the spot. The cocktail consisted of Prosecco, white peach and raspberries! The antipasta plate included various meats and cheeses.

Our last appointment was viewing Jerome Dreyfuss! We can’t think of a better way to end the day than viewing a fabulous shoe and handbag collection. Dreyfuss is the husband of the very talented Isabel Marant. What an amazingly talented couple?!? Each of his handbags have male names because he states, “Every woman deserves to have a french man on her arm.” His bags and shoes are enough to make any girl swoon!!

Stay tuned to hear about all of the other great lines we saw on our trip!!

NYC Day 3 Recap

September 7, 2014

It was a beautiful Sunday in the City. I am blessed that my mom has been able to join me on this trip and we have been having a absolute blast. We started the day at the amazing Mandarin Oriental Spa! There are no words that could do this place justice. It is the most serene, relaxing and beautiful spa I have ever been to. We both had wonderful massages and then finished the trip in their oxygen vitality pool. Needless to say, we didn’t want to leave! I can’t think of a better way to start a day!

We then headed to Bergdorf’s for lunch at the BG Cafe. No trip to NYC, in my opinion, is complete without a visit to Bergdorf Goodman! Seven floors of beautiful clothing, jewelry and accessories make this girl happy! Not to mention, the food at the Cafe is out of this world. We split my favorite, the Gotham Salad, and the rich and savory lobster mac and cheese!

After a delightful lunch we headed south to Seedhouse to view Megan Park’s Spring 2015 collection. She is one of my favorite designers housed at Mosaic and I love her colorful and vibrant prints!

After our appointment we had a little time to spare so we zipped up to the Metropolitan Museum of Art. I have always wanted to go but have never had a chance. You could literally spend several days in this place and not see everything.

photo 4-3

We only had about an hour to spare so we headed to the Rooftop Garden exhibit to take in one of the best views in the city.

photo 3-4

Sadly, tonight was the last runway show we will attend this trip. Nanette Lepore’s runway show was a great way to end our time at the Lincoln Center. The collection was colorful and breezy and the show ended with the models dancing down the runway! Since the show was at seven o’clock, I decided it would only be appropriate to really dress up. I have been drooling over this Sachin + Babi dress since it came in! The leather applique detailing is amazing! I paired it with my trusty black peep toe Louboutin’s and a leopard clutch.

The next several days will be jam packed full of appointments to view Spring 2015 collections. We can’t wait to show you what the major trends will be!

NYC Day 2 Recap

September 6, 2014

After an amazing nights rest, I woke up refreshed and ready for day 2 in New York City. I started the day at the fhitting room, a High Intensity Training boutique fitness studio delivering a comprehensive, body-changing workout in a small class environment. It was an amazing work out that I know torched a ton of calories and it flew by! I am hoping to get to another class before the trip is over.

During the afternoon, we headed back to the Lincoln Center for Mara Hoffman’s Spring 2015 runway show. Her show is always one of my favorites and it didn’t disappoint.  I had been looking for an excuse to snag this Mara Long Maxi skirt and I knew this would be the perfect chance to wear it! I paired it with a BCBG fitted top and a Rebecca Minkoff bag.

We headed to Hakkasan for dinner. It was my second visit and it was delicious. We had the Cod topped with truffles, the Wagyu beef tenderloin and jasmine rice. The cocktails were out of this world. We sipped on the Green Destiny(vodka, cucumber, kiwi and apple juice) and a passion fruit puree and prosecco bellini!

NYC Day 1 Recap

September 5, 2014

We arrived bright an early in the city this morning and man has it been a great first day! We had appointments scheduled as soon as we arrived so I opted for a comfortable ensemble that I knew would travel well and that I could wear straight to the showrooms. I chose my uber comfortable J Brand skinny’s and a flannel Elizabeth and James top. I finished the outfit off with my new favorites, the Rebecca Minkoff Seta sneaker!

IMG_5724

Our first stop was By Malene Birger and what a way to start! She never dissapoints and always sets a high standard for market. Her Spring 2015 collection was filled with beautiful embellishments and lots of fringe, fringe, fringe.

After the appointment it was time to freshen up and head to the Lincoln Center for our first presentation. I chose this embroidered Elizabeth and James dress with Gianvito Rossi booties. It was the perfect choice because the dress was very comfortable and even though it has a sleeve it is lightweight and cool.

I accessorized with Dannijo earrings and a House of Harlow clutch.

Trina Turk was our first presention and it was just as bright and cheery as you would expect. It had a very retro feel and these were some of my favorite looks.

Cheers to the Weekend

August 29, 2014

Woo hoo!!  Today is not only Friday, but also the start of Labor Day weekend!  Hopefully you have fun things planned for you holiday weekend.  Whether you’re at the beach, lake, or just staying home I have found a great cocktail recipe that will be sure to impress any of your guests.  Its called a Pear and Thyme Fizz and its oh so delicious.  I found this fabulous drink on one of my favorite bloggers sites, Camille Styles.  She created  this recipe thinking that something herbal might strike the perfect balance between summer and fall since its that time of year.  The ingredients are simple and perfect to make a large batch for your parties this weekend.
WHATYOUNEED
Ingredients needed:

  • 2 cups good-quality apple juice
  • 1 ripe but firm pear, very thinly sliced
  • 12 sprigs fresh thyme
  • 1/4 cup orange-flavored liqueur (I like grand marnier)
  • 1 bottle sparkling wine (champagne, prosecco, cava, etc.)

Combine the apple juice, pears, thyme and liqueur in a large pitcher. Stir together, then refrigerate for 2 – 4 hours to allow the pears and thyme to infuse the juice with flavor.  Letting this sit for awhile allows for maximum flavor for this drink.  To serve this fill each glass about halfway with the mixture and then add the champagne.  Remember to remove the thyme that has been sitting in it and replace with a garnish of fresh thyme.  This recipe will make about 6 servings.  Hope you all have a wonderful long holiday weekend and Cheers!!!

Presto Pesto

August 23, 2014

I have found the perfect quick and easy dinner recipe that will impress anyone.  Earlier this summer a friend of mine served Chicken Pesto Pasta for dinner one night and I had to ask her for the recipe.  I was amazed at how simple it was to make and how delicious it was!  I tweaked her recipe some by adding some tomatoes and red pepper flakes, so feel free to add anything you like to spice it up!

What you’ll need:

10oz Boneless and Skinless Chicken Breast
Olive oil
Salt and Pepper to taste
1 tsp Red Pepper Flakes
1 cup Linguine Pasta
1 cup Cherry Tomatoes (halved)
Gourmet Pesto Sauce
1/2 cup Parmesan Cheese

IMG_5026-2

I prepped the chicken breasts by coating them with olive oil, salt, pepper, and some red pepper flakes.  Season the chicken to your liking and feel free to add any other spices you like.

IMG_5031

Fill a pot with water and set it to boil.  Once boiling place the linguine or any pasta of your choice into the water and cook till al dente.  Check the pasta’s package for more precise cooking instructions.

IMG_5036

Place the chicken breasts into a skillet on medium heat and cook on one side for about 5 minutes and then flip to cook the other side for another 5 minutes.  The cooking time will vary with the thickness of the chicken breasts.  I used thinner breasts so you may need to cook yours longer the thicker they are.

IMG_5045

Once the chicken is finished cooking set it aside for a minute to rest and then slice it up into smaller pieces.

IMG_5053

Drain the pasta once its finished cooking and place it into a big bowl.  Combine the chicken, tomatoes, pasta, and pesto sauce all together in the bowl so that everything is coated with the sauce.  Add parmesan cheese shavings on top to garnish and voilà you’re done!

IMG_5046

Looking at this dish no one will believe how simple it is to make.  This would be great to make for a date night or dinner party to impress your friends.  You can make it your own by adding other ingredients like olives, roasted red peppers, broccoli, etc.  You can also make it healthier by switching out the pasta for zucchini noodles or spaghetti squash.
