Designer Spotlight: BCBGMaxazria

September 23, 2014

BCBGMaxazria is a contemporary women’s clothing brand founded by the infamous Max Azria.  In 1989 he launched his dream of a design house that spoke to the modern woman.   It is named for the French phrase “bon chic, bon genre” meaning “good style, good attitude”.  He began with the simple idea to create a beautiful dress and now they are one of America’s leading design houses.  Azria’s wife, Lubov, joined BCBG Max Azria as a pattern maker and today serves as the brand’s Chief Creative Officer.  She leads the company’s design team and oversees the marketing and merchandising for the brand.  Lubov and Max make a great team, she says he’s more of the visionary while she is more detail oriented.  Their collections span evening, cocktail dresses, sportswear separates, handbags, small leather goods and licensed outerwear, footwear, hats and swimwear.  Designs are focused on fit, construction, and fabrication and each piece represents the luxury, visionary viewpoint and integrity of the brand itself.  The brand embodies a true combination of European sophistication and American spirit.  BCBG offers incredible designer fashion at affordable price points for everyone. This is something that earned Azria a spot in the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA).  Some of my favorite pieces in my closet are BCBGMaxazria and I love how timeless they are.

The Fall 2014 Collection was heavily inspired by the landscapes and scenery of Lousiana and the bayou.  Lubov Azria says, the juxtaposition of reflections, water and sky inspired the blues and natural tones in the Fall 2014 collection. Collection colors include warm neutrals and greys offset with rich terracotta and cool blue”.  The sihoulettes in this collection are strongly influenced by those of the 1940s and 1950s.

Tunisian Dreams would be the two words to describe the Resort 2015 Collection.  Azria was greatly influenced by his native land, Tunisia, when designing these pieces. The collection consisted of embroidered floral motif tunics, graphic caftans and outfits inspired by the Hammamet towel material.

The Spring 2015 Collection had a very laid back, bohemian vibe with pastel hues and prints.  The muted patterns and sun bleached pastels hues were inspired by a recent trip Lubov Azria had to ABC Carpet & Home while she was looking through a stack artisanal rugs.
