Mixing it up with Milly!

July 12, 2015

This week we welcomed designer Milly to the Mosaic family! We were excited to receive our first shipment and it didn’t disappoint. I have always liked Milly’s designs but in the past several years Michelle Smith, founder and designer, has totally stepped up her game. She has added a bold flare to her classic designs. Whether you love a sophisticated sheath dress in a bold print or a young and fun midi skirt with a crop top, Milly has something for every age or style. Her pieces are very versatile and can be worn so many different ways. The Tess blouse, seen below styled 3 different ways, is a prime example of that. It can be paired with a leather skirt, casual black shorts or layered under a dress. This is a blouse that will become your go-to!

The Butterfly dress is a style that Milly does in many colors but we opted for a beautiful cobalt blue color way (this is one of the colors for Fall 2015). Most people would buy this dress to wear to a dressy event but we also love this dress paired with a funky pair of booties and some wood and tassel necklaces to dress it down.

I can’t finish this post with out spotlighting the amazing Tweed Day coat. It is everything you would want in a coat – versatile, fun and classic all in one! Shop these styles and others online now and stay tuned for more new arrivals from Milly coming soon!!

NYC Full Recap!

February 24, 2015

I have to admit to you all that I had all intentions of writing a recap each night we were in NYC to feature the great things we did and saw each day. However, between the weather and our non-stop schedule, by the time we got back to the room the only thing we did was pass out! With that said, this post features everything we did after day 1 in New York and has lots and lots of pictures! Hope you all enjoy!

We started day 2 in the BCBG showroom! We were greeted by these 4 lovely ladies and I am still dreaming of this colorful patchwork coat.

bcbg1In the middle of the showroom was every look that went down the runway the day before. This picture doesn’t do these garments justice. The amount of detail on each of these outfits was breathtaking! See the full BCBG runway show here!

bcbg2Next stop was Trina Turk. Her showroom is one of my favorites. It is bright, warm and cozy! The same goes for her Fall 2015 collection!

trinaAfter Trina Turk we got to hang out with one of our favorites and friend, Hunter Bell. I had never been to her showroom so this was a treat! They do everything from design the line, create the samples, ship the line and show the line all under one roof! As always, it is great catching up with Hunter and her Fall line looks amazing!! It is my favorite collection by her to date!

hunterI have never experienced weather as cold as it was on this trip. At one point I checked the weather and it said it felt like -15 outside! Yep…you read that right…-15!! We bundled up the best we could but I have to say I would be fine never experiencing temps that low again! After seeing BCBG, Trina and Hunter Bell we decided to duck into the place that always makes me feel warm inside….Bergdorf’s! When you step off of the elevator onto the 7th floor the smell is out of this world! We opted for the lobster mac and cheese(duh) and a lobster and avocado salad. For desert we had a chocolate molten cake and salted caramel gelato!

bergdorfAfter that wonderful mid afternoon meal we headed over to the Lincoln Center for the Nicole Miller runway show! The Dark Forest collection was mythical and made us feel like we were in some sort of fantasy land. There were digitized forest and crystal prints and multi color fur detailing through out. The overall vibe for this show was very different from Nicole Miller’s past collections but we loved it!

nicolerunwayDay 3 was full of amazing runway shows from Tibi, Mara Hoffman and Herve Leger. Tibi held their runway show at the Waterfront Building and the venue had so much character. The collection was full of minimalist knits in calm, cool colors and many of the pieces included fur touches and fuzzy detailing. We are thrilled to welcome Tibi to Mosaic for Fall 2015.

tibiMara Hoffman is always one of my favorite shows to attend! This show was no exception!  She played with textures, embroidery, and gold beading to add just a hint of  ’70s vibe to the collection.

mara1runwayHerve Leger’s show featured jacquard dresses peeking out under matching oversize bombers and was inspired by a recent trip made by designer, Lubov Azria, to Barcelona. This was the first time attending their show and the designs were simply breathtaking in person!

herveAfter a wonderful day spent viewing Fall 2015 collections on the runway we headed to the Elizabeth and James showroom! All we can say is fur, fur and more fur….and gorgeous fur at that!!

eandjDay 4 started off with a bang at Tibi. After seeing the amazing runway show, I was very eager to view the full collection! They had the most cozy chunky knit sweaters that we wish we could have walked out of the showroom with. They also had one of the most gorgeous leather dresses I have ever seen! Expect to see this beauty at Mosaic this Fall.

tibishowNext was Giles and Brother and simply put we will be ordering 1 of everything! Their jewelry is so wearable but super unqiue at the same time!

gilesSeveral blocks from Giles was Jerome Dreyfuss and their amazing wall of stunning shoes and bags! Pops of burnt orange and wine hues were scattered among the beautiful collection.

jeromeOur last stop was at one of our favorites, Megan Park. The Ready-to-Wear collection was obviously on point but she is now featuring home items and we couldn’t stop drooling!

meganhomeDay 5 was designated for seeing lots of awesome jewels. We started off the day at Lionette! This line is a favorite of Hunter Bell and we are so glad she told us about them! There designs also make regular appearances on the CW’s Hart of Dixie!

lionetteDannijo was next and they mixed up the collection for Fall by offering only all silver and gold pieces. We are use to a lot of color from Dannijo but we loved the more neutral collection. Don’t worry!! The pieces were still as amazing as ever!

We had to give y’all a peek of a cool section of their new showroom that is full of mannequins dressed in all of the jewels from past seasons!

dannijoDay 6 was our last day in the city and at this point we were dreaming of Carolina and warmer temps but still saw some amazing collections including A.L.C, Current Elliott, Equipment, Alice + Olivia and Rachel Zoe!

A.L.C featured a rad tie-dyed print and some gorgeous metallic lace! What a combo?!?

alclooksAlice and Olivia is always fun, flirty and unpredictable! The award for the most stunning coats definitely goes to Stacey Bendet and her Fall 2015 Collection!

aoWhew!! Our heads are still spinning and now we are off to the drawing board to put together an amazing assortment for you all for Fall 2015!! Stay tuned!

Live-In Leather

October 6, 2014

This wonderful chill in the air means one thing, its leather weather.   A fabulous leather moto jacket is a closet staple for just about everyone and slowly, but surely another leather piece has been gaining popularity among wardrobes.  Leather pants, or leggings have become the new cold weather staple because they are so versatile.  They are an investment piece for sure, but you will get just as much wear out of them as you do your favorite leather jacket.  A simple, slim fitting style is the easiest to wear in either a black or brown color.  Make sure they fit properly because leather will stretch over time so you want them to be snug, but you don’t need to go down a size.  The quality of the leather will determine the durability of the piece so you want to make sure you spend your money on a high quality pair that will last a long time.  Don’t forget you need to find a professional cleaner that specializes in leather so you can extend the life of your pants.

You can style your leather leggings with just about anything like you would a pair of jeans or leggings.  I’ve got four looks to show you to give you some ideas that will show you how truly versatile these amazing By Malene Birger Leather Leggings look with just about any top.  For the first outfit we kept things simple and neutral by pairing the leggings with a casual By Malene Birger turtleneck, Rebecca Minkoff booties, and a Trina Turk crossbody.  We even added another touch of leather with these fun Megan Park earrings.  This outfit is a great go to look for busy days or traveling.  You can even add a sweater or blazer for an extra layer on colder days.

Here’s a great look that rocks two of Fall’s biggest trends, leather and fur!  This extraordinary fur vest by Elizabeth and James was meant to be paired with the leather pants.  A simple long sleeved shirt by Elliot Lauren was the perfect backdrop for the vest and the length is perfect for leggings.  This boho-chic look is another great outfit for the day to meet friends for lunch in or go shopping.  The Rebecca Minkoff Quilted Affair bag is the perfect size to carry all your necessities in and still be lightweight.  The strap is adjustable so you can wear it like a cross body or on your shoulder.  I used the Alex booties by Rebecca Minkoff again to keep with the earthy tones of this outfit.

Leather leggings can also be work appropriate with the right blouse and shoes.  I paired a Nanette Lepore textured cream blouse with a longer hemline and a fabulous pair of suede Schutz heels to dress up the pants.  This tribal printed vest by Nell is the perfect addition to this outfit to give it some structure and more texture.  The colors combine so nicely and really makes me feel like its Fall.  A slouchy leather bag like this one by Raoul is perfect for work and running to meetings.

The last look I want to share with you is the ultimate chic and comfortable outfit.  A cashmere poncho, like this one by Allude, with the leather leggings is the absolute perfect match.  Its such a simple look but you will standout among a crowd.  I accented the sweater with a gold and leather necklace by Megan Park, Rebecca Minkoff booties, and an amazing python clutch by Malene Birger.  You could wear this anywhere and to anything.  Just swap the boots out for heels for the night and you are good to go!

Don’t forget to find a professional cleaner that specializes in leather for a pair like this.  You can extend the life of them by having them cleaning properly and get your money out of this investment piece!  Can’t wait to show you more ways to style leather pants this season!

Maxi Monday

September 22, 2014

Its finally the first day of Fall!!! I have been counting down the days until it officially arrived and I can begin wearing all of my boots, scarves, and jackets.  Here in South Carolina, we still have very warm weather right now so I will be adding Fall pieces where I can each day.  Most of you would think its time to start packing up your summer clothes and maxis along with them, but don’t just yet!  I am putting a Fall twist on some maxi dresses today that will be great for this unpredictable weather.

This colorful geometric print maxi by Nell is a knock out on its own and easy to take from day to night.  I decided to pair it with a white oversized blazer by BCBGMaxazria that makes this dress work appropriate as well as keeping you warm.  This edgy blazer has a zipper detail on the front that you can unzip to change up the look.  This is a very sleek and clean look that you could wear at the office and then with an awesome pair of heels for a night out with friends.

This Alice and Olivia Marianna Maxi is simply marvelous!  The Crown Jewel print in beautiful blues, red, and mustard is just perfect for Fall.  I love the sleeveless style and front slit that make this maxi very easy to wear.  You could wear this dress alone on a warmer day with a cute pair of booties for a fabulous casual look.  For a more glam look I paired this maxi with an amazing fur vest by Elizabeth and James that just screams luxurious.  This cropped rabbit and coyote fur vest features angled stripes and a shaggy trim.  It is a piece that you will treasure for years to come.

Mara Hoffman knows how to make an amazing maxi and this racer-back Snake print one is no exception.  Loose and flowy, you could wear this dress all day long and throughout the year.  It is a great dress for the office when paired with a sleek black BCBGMaxazria blazer.    This blazer is a wardrobe staple with sass!  It has faux leather sleeves and a draped open front that is so chic.  Both of these pieces are very versatile and can be mixed into your wardrobe to create some magnificent outfits.

I don’t know about you, but I am loving the fact that I can carry my maxi dresses from Summer into Fall.  Theses dresses are so comfortable and look so polished at the same time.  I can’t wait to show you more ways to style your maxi dresses! Stay tuned!

Big Apple Appointments Part II

September 20, 2014

Beautiful, crisp fall weather greeted us on our second day in the city.  We took full advantage of the chill in the air and pulled out our favorite sweaters and booties.  As you can see we obviously love our Rebecca Minkoff Alex booties and wore them the entire trip!  They are literally the most comfortable shoe and great for walking around the city.  We were definitely feeling the New York vibe and opted to wear black dresses by BCBGMaxaria that were great for traveling.  I wore a Mara Hoffman leopard sweater cape from Fall 2014 and Leah wore a fabulous by Malene Birger cardigan.  These were both easy sweaters to keep us warm while running around town.

Our first appointment of the day was with Elizabeth and James and it did not disappoint.  The spring collection featured lots of pastels, matching separates, and cut outs.  It had a very laid back, California vibe to it that the Olsens attributed to the fact they had been traveling to L.A. so much opening their new The Row store.

Issa was our next stop and it blew us away!  The prints featuring horses were so unique and the colors were so rich.  These were truly extraordinary pieces and captivating.

We ended our day of appointments at Nanette Lepore and couldn’t have asked for a better finale.  You could feel summer in the showroom with the bright colors and prints.  The collection was filled with yellow, aqua, and coral.  It was hard to narrow down our favorites because we loved so much of it!

photo 4-7

We treated ourselves to blowouts at the DryBar in Midtown.  Their stylists worked their magic on our hair while we sipped champagne.  There’s no better way to spend a Friday afternoon than getting your hair done!  Leah got the Manhattan which was sleek and smooth and I chose the Cosmo-Tai which was a combo of loose curls and beachy waves.

photo 5-7

I absolutley loved the products they used on my hair!  Before blowdrying she sprayed the Texas Tea Volumizing Hair Spray on my roots.  Then after she was done curling she sprayed the Triple Sec all over my hair to add volume and texture to my fine hair.  This stuff was the best smelling product I have ever used!  It has a fresh Vanilla scent that has lasted into the second day!  What is really great about this product is that it texturizes, amplifies, and refreshes the hair.  You can use this the second day to refresh your blowout and absorb any oil.

After getting our hair done we popped over to the BG Cafe at Bergdorf Goodman’s and may I say this is an exceptional restaruant!  Their Lobster Mac and Cheese is to die for!

Leah got the Lobster Napoleon, a magnificent dish of lobster, fresh pasta layers, chanterelles and truffle butter.  If you love lobster then this is the perfect dish!

photo 2-9

I chose the Chicken Milanse which was a parmesan crusted chicken breast topped with arugula and tomatoes and fingerling potatoes on the side. This was a great light dish and full of flavor!

photo 3-7

We strolled through Bergdorfs after lunch and drooled over fabulous shoes, clothes, and bags.  It was the perfect place to end our trip before heading to the airport.  NYC was amazing and we cannot wait to go back again!

Not Your Average LBD

September 11, 2014

A little black dress is a must have in everyone’s closet! A great black dress can easily transition from one season to the next and from day to night.  You need a dress that fits great and makes you feel beautiful.  So my number one rule when searching for that perfect LBD is the right tailoring.  Make sure this dress fits you well and accentuates your assets and hides any spots you may not love.  Don’t be afraid to invest in this dress because this is one you will want to wear again and again.

A simple black dress is great, but I love black dresses that have embellishments, cut outs, or unique detailing that gives them a special charm.  Below are my top three picks for unique black dresses.

This floral printed Tilly dress by Elizabeth and James with mesh cut outs is a perfect day to night piece. The playful silhouette goes great with boots or flats for the day and then strappy heels for night. A great neutral bag like this one by Raoul is a timeless bag you’ll carry forever!

The lace detailing on this Alice and Olivia black dress amps up the relaxed silhouette.  I can see myself throwing this on with a great pair of heels and a dazzling Dannijo necklace for a date night.

Elizabeth and James has outdone themselves with the Valencia dress.  The intricate embroidering and mesh detailing makes this one stunning piece! This is another fabulous option for a date night or party.  You will surely turn heads in this outfit!  A beaded clutch like this one by Nanette Lepore is the perfect accessory for this dress.

NYC Day 1 Recap

September 5, 2014

We arrived bright an early in the city this morning and man has it been a great first day! We had appointments scheduled as soon as we arrived so I opted for a comfortable ensemble that I knew would travel well and that I could wear straight to the showrooms. I chose my uber comfortable J Brand skinny’s and a flannel Elizabeth and James top. I finished the outfit off with my new favorites, the Rebecca Minkoff Seta sneaker!

Our first stop was By Malene Birger and what a way to start! She never dissapoints and always sets a high standard for market. Her Spring 2015 collection was filled with beautiful embellishments and lots of fringe, fringe, fringe.

After the appointment it was time to freshen up and head to the Lincoln Center for our first presentation. I chose this embroidered Elizabeth and James dress with Gianvito Rossi booties. It was the perfect choice because the dress was very comfortable and even though it has a sleeve it is lightweight and cool.

I accessorized with Dannijo earrings and a House of Harlow clutch.

Trina Turk was our first presention and it was just as bright and cheery as you would expect. It had a very retro feel and these were some of my favorite looks.

We worked up quite the appetite after a day full of appointments and shows so we headed to Koi for a delicious dinner. I frequent Koi everytime I am in the city and it gets better each time!!

Style your Sneaks

September 2, 2014

Ready for this seasons hottest footwear?  Then I have two words for you…leather sneakers!  These are every cool girl’s must have shoe this fall to wear with everything from jeans to playful dresses.  Sneakers are the perfect shoes as we transition into fall. I find they are a much more practical choice for everyday wear over a pair of heels.  Don’t get me wrong, I love a great pair of heels just as much as the next girl, but I find it hard to actually wear them on a day to day basis. I love the fact though that getting a pair made of leather dresses them up so that they can work in place of a heel or wedge. I know these shoes may seem out of your comfort zone and not something you think you would wear, but trust me once you see them styled you will fall in love with them too!  I have styled these sneakers four different ways to show you their versatility.  But first let me talk about this particular pair of shoes.  They are called the Seta Sneaker by Rebecca Minkoff and may I say she has outdone herself with them.  Made of soft gray leather and perfectly adorned with gold studs and zipper detailing, these are amazing sneakers.  These shoes will quickly become your go to off duty look.

This first look is very laid back and edgy, the ultimate cool girl outfit.  I paired the sneakers with black distressed JBrands, a red plaid flannel top by Elizabeth and James with feminine embellishments, and a great black satchel by Nanette Lepore.  This is an outfit I could literally wear all day, everyday.

For the second look I thought I would go for something more polished by wearing them with a cute metallic leopard print sweater by Diane Von Furstenburg and a dark wash JBrand skinny jean.  Adding a fun statement bib necklace like this one by Megan Park makes this look more glam.

Who says you can’t wear sneakers with dresses?  Not us that’s for sure! I absolutely adore these comfy sneakers with the Zoa Dropped Shoulder Dress in tye dye and the effortless vibe it exudes.  This is an ultimate cool girl look with the big slouchy bag and Kendra Scott arrowhead earrings.  When temperatures begin to fall you can throw on a leather jacket over this to carry you on into fall weather.

The balance between feminine and masculine in this outfit is on point.  I love the flirty silhouette of  this Nicole Miller dress mixed with the tough, studded leather sneakers.  Adding accessories like a wide brimmed hat and fun bib necklace only amp up this outfit’s cool factor.

You can really see the versatility of this shoe and how it can easily be slipped into your wardrobe.  This is a practical and glam shoe choice that will make your feet very happy!
