Wear Now Wear Later

August 21, 2014

I love buying pieces that can transition from one season to the next.  Right now I am eyeing all the beautiful fall lines coming out and craving some cooler weather so I can wear them!  Luckily a lot of  fall items can be worn right now and then later when the temperatures drops.

You can make any summer dress fall weather appropriate by simply adding a comfy cardigan and booties to keep you warm.  Skirts are also an easy transitional piece because you can wear a tank or t-shirt with them in the warm weather and then just throw on a lightweight sweatshirt and boots for cooler temperatures.  Brightly colored blouses that pop with white shorts can also be carried into the fall months by switching the white for dark denim or tan jeans.  Scarves are also a great way to take summer pieces into fall, the key here is layering.

This Nicole Miller Ikat Dress is the perfect buy now wear now piece. The short sleeves and great color palette make it transition easily into Fall. Pair it now with the Rachel Zoe Gwen sandals and simple jewelry like the Kendra Scott Evan earrings. When the temperatures drop, throw on a statement sweater coat like by Malene Birger’s Cameliu Caridigan and a chunky shoe like the Rebecca Minkoff Alex bootie.   Add some flair with this awesome python clutch.

This unique skirt by La Prestic Ouiston is a must have transitional piece for your wardrobe.  You can take this skirt from one season to the next easily with a change of the top and shoes.  Wear this skirt now with a simple gray t-shirt by Bella Dahl and neutral shoes like these Joie Nice sandals.  Later in the season you can swap out the sandals for high heeled booties and a cute sweatshirt.  Finish off the look with a little crossbody bag.  (A side note on this fabulous skirt  – it is made entirely from vintage silk scarves bought all over the world  and then made in Paris. Oh la la!!)

A colorful silk blouse like this one by Tolani is timeless and can be worn year round.  Wear it now with white denim cutoffs and an edgy pair of sandals like these by Rebecca Minkoff.  As the weather changes you can throw it on with a tan pair of J Brand skinny jeans and an amazing pair of Rag and Bone booties.

Having pieces that can transition easily from season to season will make your life a whole lot easier.  Next time you’re getting dressed think about how what you have on can possibly transition into the next season, don’t be afraid to think outside of the box!
