Every girl needs a leather jacket in her closet. It is one item that you can own that will never go out of style. This is a staple piece to invest in and it will stand the test of time. Fit and quality are the two most important factors when choosing a leather jacket. You want a jacket that fits you impeccably and a color that you can wear with almost anything. Black or tan are safe choices because you can pair them with pretty much anything you already have in your closet. There are so many options out there when choosing a style so take your time to find one that fits your personal taste. It is a wardrobe essential in my opinion, from instantly adding a cool factor to a cocktail dress, edging up a feminine dress, or simply giving you the whole “I just threw this on” look with jeans and a t-shirt. You will get a lot of wear out of a leather jacket so think about the cost per wear measurement when deciding on how much you want to spend.
Nicole Miller killed it this season with her Quilted Leather Jacket! The subtle quilted chevron pattern adds texture and dimension to this sleek black jacket. The structured silhouette, mandarin collar, and double slider zipper makes this a unique piece. For the first look I paired this jacket with an amazing silk maxi skirt by Malene Birger and a Bella Dahl black t-shirt. Black and tan suede heels by Schutz and a sparkling bib necklace by Dannijo make this outfit perfect for date night. I love the cool, rocker vibe of this look. Ever since our trip to New York I am obsessed with everything black. This jacket elevates a simple t-shirt and skirt combo to a whole other level of chic.
Leather jackets and jeans are the perfect combination. Throw on a colorful silk blouse and you have a quick and pulled together look in no time. The quilted leather jacket adds some edge to this flowy Abstract Floral blouse by Waverly Grey and blue pair of Luxe Sateen J Brands. If you haven’t tried a pair of J Brand’s Luxe Sateen pants you are missing out! These are the most comfortable skinny jeans you will every try on. They are so soft and come in so many brilliant colors. This is an outfit you can mix and match so many different ways with what you already have in your closet and look fabulous!
A leather jacket over a cocktail dress is the epitome of cool. The Nicole Miller Baba Fringe Dress is instantly transformed from your typical sparkly cocktail dress into something edgier and cool. You can zip up this jacket to make the outfit more sleek and polished or leave it open with the sleeves rolled up for a more relaxed look. It is amazing how you can throw a leather jacket over a dress and completely change the feel of the outfit. I love the look of very feminine dresses with lace and ruffles juxtaposed with a more masculine and edgy leather jacket.
A leather jacket is definitely a must have this fall and winter for your closet. Don’t be afraid to choose one with embellishments, texture, fur, or color – let your personality show through the jacket. Make sure you find a professional leather cleaner to keep it looking nice, but a little wear will make it look even better over time.
Today I am stealing a page from Olivia Palermo’s style book for this outfit. I mean this lady can do no wrong when it comes to styling. Her latest look that has everyone buzzing showcased how you can still wear shorts in cold weather and look chic. Tweed or embellished shorts are perfect for this look like these gold embroidered ones by Waverly Grey. I love the all black look Olivia chose and stuck with a similar color to the gold shorts for the sweater. The metallic leopard spots on this By Malene Birger sweater flow with the metallic gold shorts. I opted for booties with this outfit instead of the over the knee style Olivia wore. These Alex booties by Rebecca Minkoff are easier to wear and I love how the gold accents tie back to the rest of the outfit. Although I love how Olivia’s over the knee boots cover most of her legs, leaving only a little skin showing which would keep you warm and balances the outfit. Keeping with the neutral color scheme I chose a quilted Rebecca Minkoff bag in a mauve color. The Megan Park necklace is an unexpected pop of color and glitz. I can see myself wearing this outfit on days like today where its still warm so I wouldn’t need a jacket or tights. When the temperatures do drop more I would definitely add a pair of tights for more coverage and texture.
If I could raid one person’s closet it would be Olivia Palermo’s wardrobe. Just a peek inside it would be amazing. This girl has major style and is such a trendsetter. She has perfected the art of layering and mixing prints. Whether she’s out walking her dog or on a red carpet you can always count on her to be impeccably dressed. I love how she mixes pieces from all price points which helps make her style attainable for anyone. Olivia’s street style is amazing and easy to recreate at home. How she combines such simple pieces to create such chic outfits astonishes me. It was hard, but I managed to narrow down some of my favorite looks of hers below.
Looking to recreate these outfits? Start with a great pair of jeans, I would go for a darker, skinny jean like these by JBrand. Next add a simple blouse like this one by Waverly Grey and a structured blazer like the Pierce blazer by BCBG. Throw on a pair of comfortable, but chic flats like these LOVE ones by Rebecca Minkoff. Don’t forget a sassy pair of sunglasses and a classic bag to finish your look.
I can’t finish this post without talking about the fabulous frocks she wears to runway shows and events. Her outfits are always eye catching and memorable. She is truly an it girl with a style to watch for decades to come.
Getting dressed in the summer can be quite the challenge especially when you live in the South. Between the heat and the humidity you feel like you’re walking around in a sauna all day. How is anyone supposed to feel cute in that kind of weather? Typically I would say just grab a loose fitting, short dress to throw on to solve this problem, but let me introduce you to another option this season: the shorts suit.
